Welcome to Speech Allies where we focus on providing mentorship and support to clinicians of all levels.

We have all been in situations where we do not feel as confident and comfortable as we would like to in our respective roles.

You are in your CFY and you and your supervisor just do not “mesh”.

Maybe your supervisor is also your DOR.

Maybe your supervisor is your special education director.

Maybe you and your supervisor are best friends, but you are afraid to look like you do not know what you think you should.

Maybe you did not have a say in your supervisor, and they make you feel belittled and not good enough.

Maybe you have a great supervisor who is also very busy, and you are just looking for that extra support to help you be even more successful.

Maybe you are beginning in a new setting and will not have a supervisor to help guide you through a new setting.

The why does not matter. What matters is that you are here!

If you are a beginning clinician, starting in a new setting, or maybe just feeling overwhelmed, Speech Allies is for you! Speech Allies is a place for both medical and school-based therapists alike to come and gain knowledge, confidence, and friendships along the way!

Mentorship Benefits:

Mentorship will be tailored to you and your setting.

As a mentee, you will get to participate in 3 months of mentorship and have access to weekly topics provided online throughout your 3-month cycle.

Each weekly topic is designed to help you have an overview of what to expect in your setting, frequently used terms to increase your familiarity, and tips to help you be successful based on what we have learned from personal experience.

You will be given access to Jessica and Janessa so that you can ask questions and get even more personalized help.

Once your 3-month cycle of mentorship is complete, you will have the option to join The Alliance for only $10/month! The Alliance is a private Facebook group designed to provide you continued support and access to the other mentees who have gone through this process with you. As we all know, we never stop learning in this profession, and this will be a great group to bring up future issues and questions.

HI! I'm Janessa, and I am so glad you're here! I graduated in 2012 with my Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Stephen F. Austin State University. Since then, I have worked for a Shared Services Arrangement and two school districts with caseloads ranging up to 99 students! I have gotten to experience the joys and the hardships of working in rural areas with small schools as well as larger districts. Along the way, I have had the privilege to supervise 4 speech therapy assistants and multiple graduate students and greatly enjoyed the time spent working with them and providing support and friendship as we served our students together. I am passionate about serving students in the schools. I really enjoy the variety of needs we get to meet as therapists in this setting. I look forward to getting to know you and hope to help you grow as a speech therapist!
Hey everyone!! I'm Jessica and I am a visiting clinical instructor in the programs for Communication Sciences & Disorders and Speech Language Pathology at Stephen F. Austin State University. Since I graduated with my Master's from SFA (axe 'em) in 2012, I have worked as a speech-language pathologist with pediatrics and adults in home health, outpatient, acute, inpatient rehab, and skilled nursing facilities. I am also the owner and endoscopist at East Texas Swallowing Diagnostics were I provide mobile FEES to the East Texas region. I am extremely passionate about providing services to those in rural areas, and ensuring that there are competent and confident SLPs to treat those patients! I have supervised 7 CFYs, 3 assistants, and countless graduate students both on and off campus, and can not wait for the chance to mentor you on your journey!

What is the Cost?

Financially, depending on which level of support you choose, the cost starts at as little as a one time payment of $100. You can get even more individualized support for $30 more per month!

Commitment. Why is commitment listed under cost? If you do not commit to participation, the mentorship will not work! Mentorship involves the effort of both the mentor and the mentee to be effective (much like therapy, right?!).

We are excited to be able to accept up to 10 medical-based and 10 school-based therapists for each 3 month cycle! Claim your spot and sign up below!

Basic: One-time payment of $100. Includes 3 months of group mentorship. This breaks down to only $33/ month!
Advanced: One-time payment of $145. Includes 3 months of group mentorship, plus 1 individual call per month.
Premium: One-time payment of $190. Includes 3 months of group mentorship, plus 2 individual calls per month.

"I had the privilege of being supervised by Janessa Stewart both as an SLP-Assistant and as a graduate student. Jessica Conn provided supervision during my CF year and support once I was on my own. Both of these ladies have continued to provide support and knowledge as I have grown in my career. If you are looking for guidance in getting your career on the right track or getting those questions answered you didn’t know you needed to ask in school, these are absolutely the ladies you want in your corner. I have had my Bachelor’s for seven years and Master’s Degree for four years and I still find myself turning to both of them on a frequent basis when something is new or unknown to me. They are both very knowledgeable about our field and are able to provide support, while making you feel comfortable asking any questions you may have."

— Aley M.S., CCC-SLP

"I was blessed to have both Jessica Conn and Janessa Stewart as supervisors. These ladies are competent, determined, knowledgeable, and very passionate about what we do. I felt comfortable asking questions or expressing my concerns about the field. Even though I do not work directly with them anymore, I know I can always count on these ladies to answer any questions I have and offer great advice. They’ve helped sculpt me into the therapist I am today and they’re just overall an amazing team to work with."

— Erica B.S., SLP-Assistant

"I have had the pleasure of working with Janessa for 2 years. This school year I was fortunate enough to have her as my supervisor. She’s always very helpful, knowledgeable and fun to be around. She never hesitates to lend a helping hand. This is my 7th year in the school setting and I am always learning from her."

— Leslie B.S., SLP-Assistant
